How to Fix Error Code 0x80070002: File Not Found in Windows Server 2022

If you encounter error code 0x80070002 indicating a missing file on Windows Server 2022, consider these troubleshooting methods:

  1. Validate the file location: Ensure the file path is correct and the file is available in the specified directory. If the file is not found, attempt to restore it from a backup or reinstall the application linked to the file.
  2. Utilise the System File Checker (SFC): SFC is a Windows utility that examines and fixes corrupted system files. To run SFC, launch Command Prompt with administrative privileges, input 'sfc /scannow', and hit Enter. Let the scan finish and reboot the server afterward.
  3. Apply updates: Confirm that your server has the latest Windows updates and patches installed. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to check for and install updates. Reboot the server after completing the updates.
  4. Inspect the disk for errors: Use the CHKDSK command to detect and repair disk issues. Open Command Prompt with administrative rights, type 'chkdsk /f /r', and press Enter. This will identify and fix disk errors. Restart the server once the process is done.
  5. Temporarily disable antivirus software: Antivirus programs can sometimes disrupt system operations and lead to errors. Disable your antivirus software temporarily to check if the error persists.
  6. Perform a clean boot: Starting Windows with minimal drivers and startup programs can help isolate software conflicts. To do this, access Start > Run, type 'msconfig', and press Enter. In the System Configuration window, select the Services tab, check 'Hide all Microsoft services', click 'Disable all', and restart the server.
