How can I upgrade my Windows Server 2016 Standard to Datacenter edition?

Note: This procedure is only applicable for upgrading from Windows Server Standard to Windows Server Datacenter. Downgrading from WS Datacenter to WS Standard is not supported.

Note: Your documents, installed applications, and other files will remain intact during the upgrade. However, it is advisable to back up your data to avoid potential loss due to unexpected issues like power outages.

Follow these instructions:

In the search box on the taskbar, type CMD. The Command Prompt will appear. Right-click it and select Run as administrator.

In the Command Prompt, enter the following command: dism /online /set-edition:serverdatacenter /productkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /accepteula. Replace the Xs with your product key and press Enter.

Once the activation process completes, restart the server to begin using Windows Server 2016 Datacenter.
