Installing Windows 11 on a Mac Using Bootcamp: A Guide
Notice: These Apple models no longer support Boot Camp: (MacBook Air M1, 2020 / MacBook Pro 13', M1, 2020 / Mac mini M1, 2020 / iMac 24-inch, M1, 2021, and Apple devices with an M1 chip).
To determine your eligibility to install Windows 11, proceed as follows:
- Press the Apple icon at the top of your screen.
- Choose About this Mac to view your system details.
Notice: On Intel-based PCs, you will find 'Processor'. On Apple devices, look for 'Chip'.
Follow these steps to prepare:
Verify software updates are current.
Notice: Ensure all macOS updates are installed before proceeding with Windows installation.
- Access the Apple menu at the top left, and select System Preferences.
- Select Software Update.
- If your system is up to date, a notification will display. Otherwise, updates will be searched automatically.
Notice: If updates are found, select Update Now and follow the instructions to install.
Notice: Should your Mac reboot post-update, reopen Software Update to install any remaining updates.
Set up your Mac for Windows
Boot Camp Assistant readies your Mac by creating a new 'BOOTCAMP' partition and downloading necessary support software.
Notice: Connect portable Macs to a power source before proceeding.
- Insert your USB device into the Mac, then use the search function to find Boot Camp.
- Launch Boot Camp Assistant.
- At the welcome screen, select Continue.
- Opt for necessary settings and hit Continue.
- Pick the downloaded Windows 11 .iso file and the USB for setup files.
- Adjust the space allocation for Windows by moving the center slider, then choose Install.
- Your Mac will reboot to start the Windows 11 installation.
Notice: The partition size is fixed once set.

Install Boot Camp on Windows
Post-installation, Boot Camp drivers that match your Mac will begin installing.
- Adhere to the instructions provided by the Boot Camp installer in Windows.
- Complete the installation by clicking Finish.
- After your device restarts, comply with any further installation prompts.
Notice: Avoid pressing the Cancel button during installation.
Notice: If prompted that the installed software hasn't passed the Windows logo test, select Continue.
Notice: Ignore brief dialog box prompts unless a specific action is required.
Notice: If the compatibility software does not start automatically, install it manually.
