How to Set Up Windows 10 on Your Mac Using Bootcamp
Note: These models no longer support Boot Camp: MacBook Air M1, 2020 / MacBook Pro 13', M1, 2020 / Mac mini M1, 2020 / iMac 24-inch, M1, 2021, along with any Apple devices housing an M1 chip.
To verify your eligibility for Windows 10 installation, please:
- Click the Apple icon in the menu bar.
- Choose About this Mac to check your system's specifics.
Note: Intel-based Macs will display 'Processor' while Macs with the Apple logo will show 'Chip'.
Proceed with the steps below:
Ensure all macOS updates are applied.
Note: It is essential to update macOS before proceeding with Windows installation.
- Access the Apple menu at the top left corner and open System Preferences.
- Select Software Update.
- If your system is up-to-date, a notification will confirm there are no new updates.
Note: The system will automatically check for updates. Allow a few moments for this check to complete. If updates are found, select Update now and adhere to the instructions provided to download and install them.
Note: Should your Mac require a restart post-update, revisit Software Update to ensure all updates are installed.
Prepare your Mac for Windows setup
Boot Camp Assistant readies your Mac by partitioning a new section named BOOTCAMP and downloading necessary support software.
Note: Connect your portable Mac to a power source before you begin.
- Insert a USB drive into your Mac and type Boot Camp in the search field at the top left.
- Navigate to Boot Camp Assistant > Applications > Utilities.
- At the introductory screen, select Continue.
- Opt for all the required options and press Continue.
- Choose the Windows 10 .iso file you have downloaded and the USB drive for the installation media.
- Adjust the storage space for the Windows partition by moving the center slider and click Install.
- Your Mac will then reboot to start installing Windows 10.

Commence Boot Camp installation within Windows
Following Windows installation, Boot Camp drivers that match your Mac model begin to install.
- Within Windows, initiate the Boot Camp installer and follow the on-screen prompts.
- After the installation concludes, press Finish.
- Post-restart, comply with any additional installation software prompts that appear.
Note: Avoid pressing the Cancel button during any part of the setup.
Note: If a notification claims that the software has not cleared the Windows logo test, choose Continue.
Note: Ignore brief pop-up dialog boxes during installation unless they request device software installation, in which case select Install. Check for any hidden windows if the process stalls.
